The Source Marketing team is proud to introduce You Speak, an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) app now available on the Apple App Store and Google Play. You Speak helps people who are nonverbal or have limited speech share their needs, thoughts and feelings. It also gives the speech-language pathologists (SLPs), parents and caregivers who support them a simple way to work together.

You Speak is also an example of what we do for nonprofits and small businesses. We take a deep understanding of a community’s needs and turn it into a tool that serves them.

What You Speak Does

• Custom communication items: Users build communication boards with their own photos and images, so they see what’s familiar to them.
• Familiar voices: Voices can be recorded right in the app, so messages are spoken in a voice the user knows.
• Shared plans for SLPs and families: An SLP creates a communication plan and shares it with parents, so the same words and routines carry over from therapy to home.
• Multiple profiles: One administrator can set up separate profiles for each user or student, each with its own settings, communication items and progress tracking.
• Private and offline: You Speak works fully offline and collects no user data.
• One-time purchase: There’s no subscription and no recurring fees.

Why We Built It

That gap became our starting point. Many AAC tools cost hundreds of dollars, need ongoing subscriptions or depend on an internet connection. Those barriers leave out many of the families, schools and therapy practices who need these tools most. Our team set out to build an app that is affordable, private and easy to use from the first day.

How Our Team Built It

We built You Speak with the same three-step process we use to guide nonprofits and small businesses through app development:

• Strategy: We researched the AAC market, defined the key audiences (SLPs, parents and caregivers) and set a price point that keeps the app accessible.
• Management: We planned the launch, built content calendars and created a library of training and marketing videos to help people get started.
• Implementation: We selected and managed our development partners, oversaw the iOS and Android builds and guided the app through both app store approvals.

That process keeps an app focused on the people it serves, and it keeps the project on time and on budget.
